Update #3

It's been awhile since we posted an update and a lot has been going on since then.

Good News! Zach has finished his treatment! He's definitely had his ups and downs especially towards the end of treatment. The side effects from the radiation are healing and his neck doesn't look sunburned and red as a cooked lobster anymore. He has been relying on his feeding tube for the nutrients he needs. He is still not able to swallow, but the sores in his throat are getting a little bit better every day. He's been able to chew so he's gradually starting to taste things again but not consuming them. He looks forward to eating ham sandwiches and hot dogs again.

His blood counts are good and the oncologist says all signs look good that the cancer is gone. He will get a CAT scan in a few weeks and a PET scan in a few months to confirm. We're praying he progresses as anticipated. Fingers crossed!

More Info

As many of you know, Zach and Kelly are facing a battle. Zach and Kelly got married on September 9th, 2017. We were excited about the two of them starting their life together, but they got news on January 20, 2018 that no young couple should ever receive.

Zach was diagnosed with stage IV nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The cancer spread to his lymphnodes, so he is undergoing an aggressive regimen of chemotherapy and radiation. We are praying this approach works. After having a brain tumor removed about 4.5 years ago, it is a difficult reality to face again.

Zach and Kelly have just begun to start their lives together and are facing a difficult hurdle way too early in life. So we are trying to help where we can to ease the daily burden and expenses that come with cancer treatment and regular living expenses that do not go away just because cancer comes.

Zach is one of the toughest men we know and Kelly is his rock, so we are confident that with prayers and the support of family and friends, Zach and Kelly will get through this.

Update #2

The doctors gave Zach a week off of radiation and chemotherapy to help the ulcers in his mouth heal. They increased his dose of medication and that helped to clear the ulcers. He ended up having his second dose of chemotherapy last Monday. He had a tough second week of chemotherapy. He was very nauseous but started feeling better toward the end of the week. This past Tuesday he had a CT scan done. The cancer has shrunk significantly, over 75%. It's enough to where they are reducing the amount of radiation, which is a good thing. They don't want to over treat the area. We're praying this trend continues. Thanks everyone for your prayers and support.

Update #1

Hi all,
As an update, Zach was experiencing painful sores in his throat and mouth making it impossible for him to swallow anything. So they put a feeding tube in and although uncomfortable, he is doing better. Treatment was delayed a few days because of the complications. Friday his blood work showed that his white blood cell count has gone down. We hope this will not prevent him from getting his next chemo treatment today.
