I can still remember the exact surroundings this summer when I saw a man who was homeless reading on the street. This was a new experience for me, and it got my mind churning. I loved the thought of reading as an avenue to an improved life, and I had this grand idea to create a book about the best practices to get off the streets. While it turns out that the book does not strike the problem at the heart of homelessness, it led to me something much more grand and important: the Community First! Village.

I spoke to Steven Hebbard, who is in charge of social enterprises at the Vilage, and he told me that what really helps people who are homeless is providing the respect, dignity, and care that every person deserves. Community First! is innovative and inspiring; the library will be more than just a place to store books. It will provide purpose, and a community center to the daily lives of residents. Please consider supporting this great cause!

If you would like to learn more or set up a visit to the Village please contact me at 210-878-8521. Thank you in advance!

Mobile Loaves & Fishes' Community First! Village is a 27-acre master-planned community that will provide affordable, sustainable housing, and a supportive community for the disabled, chronically homeless in Central Texas.

Over 9 years, we have successfully lifted 99 disabled, chronically homeless neighbors into housing with an 87% long-term success rate.

Our goal is to lift 225 of Austin's homeless off the streets and into a permanent, supportive community including 100-5th wheel RV's, 100 Micro-homes, and 25 canvas-side cottages.

  • 5th Wheel RV's ($25,000):  Include a fully functioning kitchen equipped with cooking supplies and refrigerator; bathroom with standup shower; separate bedroom with fresh linens and new mattress; living and sitting area; and ample storage space.
  • Micro-homes ($20,000):  Range in size from 144 to 180 sq. feet and are environmentally-friendly, made with sustainability in mind. Equipped with electricity and its unique design maximizing airflow for the comfort of our residents and reducing the need for excessive power usage even in the most extreme weather conditions. Outdoor kitchens, private bathrooms, shower and laundry facilities are conveniently located throughout the property. Click here to see how we can build a micro-house in 6 hours!
  • Canvas-side Cottages ($10,000): The cottages are built securely on a structured deck. Approximately 12'x12' in size, the one-room cottages offer a single bed, chair, and a small table. This home is equipped with electrical power, a wall socket, and ceiling light. Outdoor kitchens, private bathrooms, shower and laundry facilities are conveniently located throughout the property.

Your financial support is vital to providing a way home for our homeless brothers and sisters.
