"You can't always tell there are homeless people in a rural Maine town. They aren't panhandling or sleeping on street corners — they fit into the scenery, often staying with friends, in cars or camping." - Kaitlin Schroeder
The mission of Western Maine Homeless Outreach is to provide emergency shelter to homeless families from Western Maine. Our goal is to transform futures by strengthening families to become self-sustaining. In addition to temporary shelter, guests are provided case management and life skills trainings to ensure they are ready when they transition to permanent housing.
While the organization awaits it's registered 501c(3) status which will allow us to apply for grants, we are heavily dependent on community support through donations and volunteers. Donations received are tax deductible, as WMHO has a fiscal sponsor in the interim. We are calling out for support to help us make a lasting change in the lives of these families. 0% of donations is spent on administrative costs - WMHO is run by a volunteer Board of Directors, allowing all funds to be spent on capacity building, necessary capital expenses (such as needed repairs) providing direct client services, and minimal staff to ensure the safety of guests and provide case management.
