The purpose of the initiative is to empower the Gbarnga School of Theology and the Tubman Gray High School to build their capacities for food security for their communities.
Update: Since the West District began to support the Liberia Food Security Initiative, we have sent Rev. Dr. James Labala $13,490. This seed money started the project for the people in Gbarnga, Liberia in order to support the residents in providing for their own needs. They began to mobilize a team of workers that started laying out the rice field and planting. Specifically, clearing the site and laying out the swamp. The money we sent is about half-way toward our goal of $29,000 for 2020-21. The money is used to purchase tools and pay for some labor. The goal is to eventually plant about 60 acres in rice and ten acres in vegetables.
