Watering Farms in Jamaica (St. Ann) - Meet Alica

From Cornerstone Collaborative Florida Inc

The continuing need of rural farmers is demand-access to water through water-storage and water-catchment systems. Cornerstone will acquire and deliver a 800-gallon water tank to farmers who meet need-based criteria.

Update #3

The drought has continued to wreak havoc on Alica's farm. Now that the rainy season has ended and summer has begun, she has little expectation for rain. Alica is now completely dependent on the incoming water truck to water her crops and to use in the home.

Throughout the drought, Alica remains optimistic. Your help to fund Alica's water tank will cause a ripple effect of hope throughout her community. With access to harvested rainwater will come the ability to yield more crops and more income. Through your support, we can create a brighter future for Alica and her community.

Update #2

Rain has not fallen on Alica's farm since late January. May is the height of the rainy season and there is not a drop to be found.

"It's hard, it's hard, it's hard....the containers them are empty, no rain, dry field"
-Alica

Without rain, these cabbage plants will die and the starter plants will never make it into the ground. After the rainy season passes (May-June) the land will be subject to additional drought and bad weather. Alica may also lose her opportunity for financial stability.

By securing funding for a water tank, Alica may catch water when rain does fall, and extend her grow season; allowing her the opportunity to feed and provide for her six children.

We believe in ending poverty and reducing violence. All donations to Cornerstone Collaborative go toward achieving this goal.
