More Info

Meet Alica. Alica is a single mother of six living in a very remote area within St. Ann. She and her children (4 boys and 2 girls) rely solely on their farm for food and income. The young man pictured with Alica is her son Demetri, age 14. Currently, their water source is a gully which is 1.5 miles away from their farm. They grow cabbage, bok choy, and carrots.  Access to stored water for Alica would be life changing, providing her family with the ability to increase crop yield and grow their income. Your donation supports the following for Alica:

Irrigation system materials: $465.85

Installation labor: $190

800-Gallon Water tank: $215.75

Water tank delivery: $178

Irrigation best practices training: $41.15

Program Management: $83.00

Administrative Cost: $14.25

Total: $1,188.00

Update #3

The drought has continued to wreak havoc on Alica's farm. Now that the rainy season has ended and summer has begun, she has little expectation for rain. Alica is now completely dependent on the incoming water truck to water her crops and to use in the home.

Throughout the drought, Alica remains optimistic. Your help to fund Alica's water tank will cause a ripple effect of hope throughout her community. With access to harvested rainwater will come the ability to yield more crops and more income. Through your support, we can create a brighter future for Alica and her community.

Update #2

Rain has not fallen on Alica's farm since late January. May is the height of the rainy season and there is not a drop to be found.

"It's hard, it's hard, it's hard....the containers them are empty, no rain, dry field"
-Alica

Without rain, these cabbage plants will die and the starter plants will never make it into the ground. After the rainy season passes (May-June) the land will be subject to additional drought and bad weather. Alica may also lose her opportunity for financial stability.

By securing funding for a water tank, Alica may catch water when rain does fall, and extend her grow season; allowing her the opportunity to feed and provide for her six children.

We believe in ending poverty and reducing violence. All donations to Cornerstone Collaborative go toward achieving this goal.
