The Walk of Champions will bring people together to walk with athletes with the common goal of supporting Special Olympics Michigan Area 11. Together we can make a difference!
Special Olympics is a worldwide program that provides athletes with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to interact in their community and to experience personal growth as individuals.
Special Olympics continues to be at the forefront of the inclusion revolution movement as we strive to provide many opportunities for our athletes in sports, health and wellness and community integration.
Here in your backyard, Special Olympics Michigan – Area 11 (Kent & Barry Counties) is committed to offering year-round sports training and competition to over 2,700 athletes. With more than 24 sports, multiple fundraising events and other community involvement throughout the year, we create opportunities to help our athletes develop physical fitness; demonstrate courage, and experience joy, friendship and community. The transferable skills learned within the Special Olympics also translate into greater success in the athlete’s family life, school work, employment, and community life. This year is especially important to Area 11 as we celebrate our 50 year anniversary!
Special Olympics Michigan - Area 11 is comprised of 100% volunteers! Our coaches, fundraising committees, and our management team are all volunteers. This amazing group of individuals function solely because of people like you; local businesses and other individuals that support our cause. It’s your time and monetary donations that allow us, within Area 11, to provide the necessary sports training and competition opportunities for these athletes.
On Saturday, October 12, Special Olympics Michigan Area 11 will be hosting its 1st Annual Walk of Champions Walk-a-Thon at Aquinas College. All funds raised at this event will be donated to the Area 11 Special Olympics program to provide more opportunities for athletes to compete, learn and grow.
