Please “VOTE NO - PROP 2” in a special election on February 8, 2022.

Seattle School District’s Proposition 2 increases taxes, demolishes historic buildings, reduces teacher time by increasing screen time, and shrinks playfields and green space.

Why vote “NO”?  Prop 2 would cost $783 million (a 64% increase from their last levy in 2019). This is a capital levy which does not fund teachers.

• Buildings: Prop 2 will demolish historical Memorial Stadium (a tribute to WWII veterans), even though the stadium is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places - just like Northgate Elementary School is, but which they are demolishing anyway.

• Technology: If they get our money, they will put more screens in front of students. More screen time means less time with physical activity, books, and interacting with teachers and fellow students.

“Not only as an educator, but as a father, I can tell you that learning in front of a computer is no substitute for in-person learning.”   –Education Secretary Miguel Cardona

From "Back to School, but Still Learning Online" New York Times, January 21, 2022: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/21/us/online-tutoring-stimulus-funding.html

Education Secretary Miguel Cardona is also quoted in this article: “Virtual schooling hurt students. So why is the federal government paying for virtual tutoring?” January 23, 2022: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/23/us/virtual-schooling-hurt-students-so-why-is-the-federal-government-paying-for-virtual-tutoring.html

• Playfields: Prop 2 will expand buildings and shrink playfields (as happened at Northgate School, Thornton Creek, and Loyal Heights), replace grass fields with artificial turf or impervious surfaces (as happened at Rainier Beach, Boren, and Jane Addams), and remove trees and other vegetation (as happened at B.F. Day, Green Lake, John Muir, Aki Kurose, and Sacajawea).

PLEASE DONATE!  Any donations allow us to reach more voters (mailers, yard signs, etc.).

A “NO” vote will help the Seattle School District take notice.

Donate here on Fundly or by mailing a check made out to “Vote No - Prop 2” to P.O. Box 84063, Seattle WA 98124.

You can also help by asking every Seattle voter you know to "VOTE NO - PROP 2"! A “NO” vote is a “YES” for students!

Thank you!

The "Yes" statement in the Voter's Pamphlet deliberately misleads voters. Prop 2 will NOT renovate historic Memorial Stadium.  Prop 2 will tear down the stadium and replace it.  As part of an October 2021 City School District agreement for an "enhanced" program partly funded by "business".  PDF copies of this agreement and other background documents are available by contacting Jennifer Crow at jennifer.crow@hotmail.com
