It’s a bitter irony that the majority of the world’s hungriest people grow food for a living. Millions of smallholder farmers don’t harvest enough to feed and support their families simply because they lack access to the basic tools, training, and financing they need. Volta Irrigation is working to eliminate hunger and build pathways to prosperity by supplying a bundle of goods and services on credit, delivered to the rural villages where farmers live. Providing all of these services together generates the greatest possible impact.
Our first product, the Irrigation Bike, is already in use by several agricultural communities in Rwanda. We have made plans to expand our movement to other communities across countries in Africa and we are currently in our first stage. That's where we need your help. We've calculated the total costs of taking our venture to a new country to be $7000. This includes costs of equipment purchase, assembly, tariffs and logistics.
Volta Irrigation aims to impact ten thousand farmers by 2022. To do this, we must sustain a 10% market penetration in 20 farming communities. If we can maintain our penetration we can hit 1 million smallholder farmers in 10 years. In addition to this, we will be able to create jobs for over 500 youths from the farming communities where we deploy our products, improving livelihoods there.
We believe in our venture. We ask you to do the same.
