Today in Charlottesville 1000+ faced off with 30 KKK members for a permitted rally the Klan had planned. 23 people were arrested, including one who has a $2000 bail.
We've hit 50% of our goal for the #J8 legal fund! Thank you to everyone who's contributed, every bit helps those arrested on #J8 and #A12
Saturday July 8, in Charlottesville, Virginia 1000+ faced off with 30 KKK members for a permitted rally the Klan had planned.
Charlottesville showed us real heart and courage today and we are beyond inspired by their continuous resistance to right wing violence in their town.
Protestors bravely confronted, blockaded, trapped, and chased the KKK all while vigilantly looking out for one another. There was very much a spirit of unity in confrontation that we honestly didn't expect. It was amazing. We know even more heart will be needed on the 12th. Get educated, find roles and help support Charlottesville resistors! We're gonna need EVERYONE!
As medics were treating folks for dehydration and dangerous heat exhaustion the police decided to deploy tear gas on a crowd of protesters that were rightfully, verbally, angry that the police were protecting the KKK well after the permit ended. It was disgusting and Cville police should be ashamed.
They pepper sprayed, deployed tear gas and beat protesters in an astonishing over reaction to what was otherwise a day of solidarity and love for so many communities that are being targeted by rising right wing violence. Many people have battle wounds yet they are all undeterred.
There were way too many arrests for today. The police acted with brutality out of fear because they were way out of their comfort zone and were a mess.
Good intel for us but heartbreak for our beaten and arrested comrades.
Some of those abused have been arrested are from Richmond or are close comrades. One of our comrades was held on a $2,000 bail for an alleged felony. *Thanks to your support we were able to bond them out Saturday night!*.
The rest will be having court soon and we need to raise money asap for the legal costs associated with court and trials for defendants.
We are also including a cushion as we are expecting the same brutality or worse on August 12th and want to be prepared to get folks out.
Love and rage!
*Any money not used for legal will be used for future legal needs or supplies needed in situations such as this to keep people safer from harm.
