My mom and dad, Charley and Priscilla, had Alzheimer's. I loved and admired both of my parents and I was a huge daddy's girl.  As we all three traveled through Alzheimer's I was their primary caregiver. My father passed away in 2008 and my mom in 2013.  My mom had Alzheimer's for 16 years.

Alzheimer's is an expensive heart breaking disease. Thankfully my parents had long term care insurance. My mom's insurance was a four year plan and she ran out of money. I searched for a memory care facility that she could afford and found none existed.  Medicaid was an option only for skilled nursing, not memory care. As many children do I paid for her care when her money was gone.

I know there are too many people like my mom who need care, but cannot afford it. I began dreaming about helping other families. The  first part of my dream was Priscilla's Cottage Alzheimer's Daycare. Three years ago Priscilla's Cottage  doors opened in Lawrenceville, GA.

Now it is time for the  second part of my dream. Village Square Memory Care Community will be a nonprofit memory care for lower income people in Gwinnett County, GA. Village Square will be three houses, each a different level of care surrounding a village square. The residents will live in an open community with no visible locked doors.  We will have a store for them to shop in or work if they choose to.  A beauty salon and bistro will also be on the square. Village Square will be a community based on giving the residents a full life. We will have animals, gardening and engaging activities. Each resident will be loved and cared for just as I cared for my parents.

Village Square will be a green property. We will use solar power, permeable paving to reduce water runoff, native plants and renewable building supplies. My dream is to have Village Square be a showcase for green building and living.

Our overall goal is to raise funds to buy land and build the facility. The first phase of fundraising is to pay for the architect and set up a  personal care home. We hope to have the personal care home running by Fall of 2018. Our fundraising goal is set at $3,000,000 for the entire project. We will also be applying for grants.

Thank you for taking time to visit our page and learn about Village Square. We are grateful for all donations, every penny gets us closer to our goal.  Please share our page. The more people who are aware of Village Square the sooner it will become a reality.
