USL will be opening its doors to serve the community this Fall. We will be needing new supplies as we redesign USL to function more like a school and funding to provide tuition assistance for low-income families.
The foundation of Urban STEAM Lab (USL) is the sum of all of my experiences as a low-income Latina high school and undergraduate STEM student. When I created USL the goal was to become a safe space where kids could have access to the materials, resources, and guidance to shape their own ideas into reality. Access, equity, and community are the pillars of our mission. The reopening of schools in NYC has been stressful and filled with uncertainty. I hope to alleviate some pressure off of the families in the community and provide high quality care and instruction to our children while we learn together what our new normal will be. I identify so strongly with the parents struggling to find care for their children, and even more so with the families that are unable to access quality care and instruction for their children. I see all of you, and with a little bit of help we can ensure children from all financial backgrounds are not left behind.
