UNTITLED Cycles Launch Fundraiser!

From UNTITLED Cycles

Jacqueline Mautner makes custom frames that are works of art, meant to be ridden. It's like a gallery show at a cross race: UNTITLED Cycles is where concept meets adventure.

Update #5

Hello everyone! A quick update about recent developments:

My dear friend Adeline (Mercredi Bikes) and I are wrapping up our last virtual class on the circular economy and bicycle design. "I know what bicycle design is, but what is the circular economy?" you say -- well, the circular economy is essentially business models build around the principle of sustainability. It is opposed to the linear economy, in which products are created for use and consumption only to end up in landfills based on the idea that in order to make money, you must "sell more, and sell often."

So how does this bear on Untitled Cycles' business model? In this 6 week class Adeline and I have brainstormed ways to incorporate sustainable design. We want to see bikes that last longer by offering support and encouragement of matinence and periodic overhauls. I would also like to offer an option for building bikes around vintage group sets (did someone say NOS Dura-Ace. or Campy Record? Yes please!). We are also looking into offering parts trade-ins and use of like-new refurbished parts. There are many implications on how Untitled Cycles operates, and I'd love to make this dream become a reality!

If you haven't already, please consider making a donation to support the implementation of these ideas. Your donation, no matter how small or big will go a long way to making this business both financially and environmentally sustainable. It's truly an investment in a better future, where this little ol' custom frame builder can push the envelope of what's possible, and lead by example to show that we do not need to make disposable products in order to make a buck.

Thanks again to those who donated, and thanks in advance to all that will increase the funds raised!

More Info

Jacqueline Mautner has dreamed of starting a custom bicycle frame-building business for years. As a culmination of her architecture and design training, love for fabrication, experience in custom frame-building plus her unique artistic vision, UNTITLED is finally here!

Jackie is a working class trans femme—unlike many people who start a business, Jackie does not have access to wealth, and, while she's been working since she was 14 years old, she has been living paycheck to paycheck most of her life. Starting a business from this place is a huge undertaking, and community support is necessary for her business to get off the ground!

Your donation will help Jackie's start up costs, like securing a shop space, buying equipment and tools, purchasing design software and getting a vehicle for deliveries.

In addition to making one-of-a-kind frames, Jackie is deeply invested in creating positive change in the bike industry. With this in mind, Jackie's business model includes opportunities for training new frame-builders who might otherwise be pushed out of the field due to racism, sexism, transphobia and classism. Additionally, 10% of all Jackie's profits will be reinvested into community justice organizations working towards creating a future free of capitalist, anti-Black, colonial oppression.

Your support is essential in realizing this small business and Jackie thanks you from the bottom of her heart for your trust in her work!

Update #4

Hi everyone! We've surpassed 4k at this point, and I'm overjoyed! I just want to reiterate how much love and support I've been feeling - despite the anxiety that comes with pursuing something new like starting a business. Having the support of everyone who's donated or shared my fundraiser campaign really means a lot and motivates me to make it happen!
Also, I've emailed many of you (specifically those who've donated over $50) to get addresses to send out the prints I've made as a thank you, but haven't gotten a response from everyone. If you could check your spam inbox for an email from my untitledcycles gmail address I would appreciate that! I've already put many in envelopes that are just awaiting your address. Anyway, I hope you're all taking care and doing well (as well as one can in these circumstances, at least)!

Love and many thanks,

Jackie

Update #3

Hi everyone!

Thank you all who've donated and or/shared. It's truly appreciated and will ultimately help me get this off the ground!
If you've donated over $50, I've either sent your art out in the mail already, or I'm waiting to hear back with an address. So please check your inbox, and if it's not there maybe check your spam folder?
For those of you who'd like your own print and haven't donated (or want to donate a second time to bump you up into that tier!) please consider making a contribution and I'll get one out to you ASAP! And if you donate over $100 I'll write you a personalized haiku in addition to sending you a print I made!
I really like the prints I've made, there are two versions now and both are art (history) + bike themed, pretty cool if you appreciate either art and/or bikes. Please spread the word!

Thanks once again!

Sincerely,
Jackie

Update #2

I'm so grateful to have reached $2000! I've just submitted an application for a space to rent for my shop, and have also registered Untitled Cycles as an LLC -- it feels good that the wheels are turning to make this dream come true. Thank you to all those who've donated so far, I will be reaching out to get addresses to send you a thank you gift for your generosity. Please share and spread the word if you haven't already!
