Hi everyone.

For those of you who don't know me, my name is Jihae "Jay" Cha, and I am a doctoral student studying international educational development (focus: refugee education).

This year, my birthday will be very special and meaningful, as I will be celebrating it here in Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya. And for my 32nd birthday (uh, I hope this didn't surprise you.. yes, I'm getting old LOL!), I have decided to raise support for out-of-school children and youth in Kakuma.

Through my conversations with dozens of children here, I found that a vast majority of students in the camp drop out of elementary school due to lack of school uniform and supplies. With only $13, we can encourage one child to continue schooling! Can you believe it? (It is equivalent to about 3 cups of Starbucks coffee! Two - if you order Greentea Frappuccino!)

If you were thinking of writing me a birthday card or giving me a small gift (or maybe you don't know me but if you have heart for refugee children), would you rather support me on this project? I'm aiming high to reach 500 children by early May, which is the beginning of a new term.

Please don't feel obliged to give - BUT kindly share it with your friends who may be interested in helping out. If you have any questions about the project or Kakuma in general, please send me a message! I'd be happy to chat with you.

Thanks all for your support!

Sincerely,

Jihae (Jay) Cha
