More Info

Through this Challenge, I am attempting to complete 100 miles on an Elliptical trainer within 24 hours. No, I have never done this before, but I have trained hard and am confident I will complete the event. I am doing this, in part, as a challenge to myself, but also to draw attention to and raise money for two very important charities to me. The first is St Jude Children's Research Hospital which does such amazing work to eliminate pediatric cancer. This cause hits home for me as I had a tumor near my eye removed in a difficult surgery at the Mayo Clinic when I was ust 14 years old. The other is a charity that founded called, American's Against Opioid Addiction. Opioid addiction is one of the biggest issues facing our country today and for several years I watched someone very close to me struggle with this terrible issue. I saw firsthand how they battled with this affliction and what it did to her, our immediate family, her family, friends and more. I began this charity to help provide assistance to the people and the families of those who are struggling with this addiction.

Update #4

The money being raised through my Ultimate Elliptical Challenge is going to two great charities, St Jude Children's Research Hospital and American's Against Opioid Addiction. We all know the great work that St Jude does, but how about AAOA? Well their mission is to assist individuals and their families that are struggling with opioid addiction. This picture shows exactly what this assistance can look like and how meaningful a small donation can be. New shoes for school that otherwise wouldn't have been possible. I thank you for your support and helping to make that smile possible!!

Update #3

I'm Going for a Guinness...and this Time it's Not a Beer!

Hi All! So I am excited to announce that on August 29, exactly two weeks from today, I will be attempting to set the Guinness World Record on an Elliptical Trainer. To achieve the record, I will need to complete at least 150 km or a little over 93 miles in a 12 hour span. It is certainly going to be a challenge but I have been training extremely hard for this opportunity and believe I have a strong chance at success. I thank all of you that are supporting with donations...we are well over half way towards our goal of $10,000!! I also would like to invite everyone to join us the night of the event for our Watch Party at Arkane Aleworks. It will run from 7:00 to close and you can enjoy a cold beverage and entertainment while I will be right next door trying to get that record. And I can promise that when the event is over at 8:30, I will be quenching my thirst by joining in for a beverage or two.
Thank you!
PB

Update #2

Hi All,
One week into our campaign and we are off to a great start. With your help, we have raised nearly $1,000 dollars already and are well on our way to our goal of $10,000. I am also happy to report that my training is going well and I have some big training goals set for the week. Be on the lookout for further updates later in the week to see if I am able to put some miles in the books. Lastly, we are finalizing the details on a watch party that will take place the night of the event. We will be forwarding details on the party in the next week or two, but it promises to be a great time.
Thank you,
Paul

Update #1

Training Update
With just 66 days until the event, I thought this weekend was a good opportunity to put a few more miles in the books. So, last night I combined a chest/back workout with 8 miles on the elliptical. Then just 12 hours later, I completed another 24 miles in just over 3 hours. The workout today was not easy, my legs were tired and sluggish from the previous night., but it gave me a good sense of what I will be dealing with during the second 50 miles of the Challenge. There was no bounce in my step or extra energy to expend, simply a grind it out mentality that carried me through the 3 hours. I was certain that it was going to take a couple days to recover from today's 24 miles, but after a couple hours of recovery I ended the days by swimming laps. As you can see, I am taking this Challenge very seriously and will need to put in a great deal of work this summer in order to complete it successfully.
