Connecting Uganda to the U.S.

Connecting Uganda to the U.S.

From Rebecca Carlson

We are fundraising for airfare, passport, visa and living expenses for our Ugandan friend, Judith, to travel to the U.S. for a month stay. During this time, we will be discipling her & preparing her to go back empowered.

Last year Mark and I were connected to a new non-profit organization serving in Uganda and had the opportunity to live there for two months.  Judith was one of the two social workers hired to profile children within the village of Wakitaka. We had so much excitement and anticipation building up prior to leaving the U.S. and once we landed in Uganda, we were overjoyed to see one another face to face!

Throughout our time in Uganda, our friendship blossomed because we were spending 5 days a week together. We enjoyed Judith's humor and her love for her people and community. She is somewhat shy but once she warms up, she is very fun, loves to laugh and share about her people and country, both good and bad.

When we left Uganda, we had no idea if or when we would see her again and that was heartbreaking. Our relationships had grown from acquaintances to more like family and for that, we thank God for the connection!

Judith has a passion to experience America, like most Africans. However, we wanted to make her dream a reality for a very specific purpose. Our goal is to bring her to Colorado for a month, where she will be staying in our home. We would like to show her around Colorado, allow her to experience our culture, our worship, and our business opportunities. During her stay, we will submerse her in the Word both in Bible study and church, preparing her to return home with a boldness and wisdom to disciple within her community. We want to introduce her to our friends, our family members, our community, even introduce her to our Chamber of Commerce. We are praying for the Lord to stir her heart, speak to her with absolute clarity and for her to leave the U.S. empowered and ready to begin a new endeavor back at home! She is so excited, her family is so grateful for the opportunity she is being given, and we are blessed that we get to see this friendship nurtured on the other side of the world!

Originally, we did not feel comfortable asking for support since this is our personal choice to bring Judith to America. However, we have prayed and really want share this opportunity with our family, friends and brothers/sisters in Christ.

For the financial burden to be lifted solely from us to her witnessing the love and open arms of this melting pot we call home-this is going to be a life changer for her, and prayerfully for the many that she will go back to and encounter in her homeland! Will you please consider any amount of support, will you commit to praying for her and the process of preparing for this huge trip, and for us? Will you share this with others who may have a desire to jump in? We thank you from the bottom of hearts and we will be praying for you all in return!

With all of our love and the love of Christ, Mark & Rebecca
