Super Typhoon Maysack passed directly over small remote islands in Yap State, FSM. The damage assessment was 100% across the board - structure, power, water supply, crops, community houses, school and homes are all lost.
Official relief efforts are focusing on state of health and water and food security. Private donations are being taken to put clean-up tools into the hands of the people and mobilize the island.
These donations will purchase hand-saws, nails and hammers in order for people to build temporary shade and shelters.
This is what official relief planners had to say about this campaign:
"International humanitarian donors have specific funding set aside for food, water, shelter and healthcare. What’s needed, and too-often overlooked, are those critical elements that respect the capacity for self-recovery. Putting the power of recovery in their own hands is vital and I’d recommended that another donor support shelter “tool kits”.
