I'm no one special, just a 66yo man with a lot of obligations who has lost his livelihood due to a temporary medical disability. This has been going on since the end of January.
The disability is Vertigo due to neuropathy. I still work, SS is not enough, but until the vertigo is cleared up, I cannot return to work per the safety policies. Therein lies the crux of the problem.
It took from the beginning of February until the beginning of May to find out what was causing the vertigo. That's because it was initially thought to be heart related and it took almost 3 months to determine my heart and circulation were fine. Afterwards, a neurological examination determined it was being caused by neuropathy.
I have a disability policy but the company is not paying my claim. It is supposed to pay me 50% of my wages until I'm back to work. With that and SS, I can pay not only the most essential of my bills but also my co-pays for the neuropathy therapy that will allow me to return to my job. Without it, neither will occur.
The insurance company is trying to deny that vertigo, in and of itself, is a viable medical reason not to work. I work in a heavy industrial environment and safety regulations do not allow anyone with a compromised sense of balance to be onsite. Two different doctors have also confirmed that I should not return to work until the vertigo is gone. The insurance company has those statements but still has not paid the 50% of lost wages.
I just used the last of my reserve funds getting the final diagnosis from the neurologist. The insurance has withheld some $7200 in benefits. It looks like my therapy will be about $2800 out of pocket, which I don't have so, I'm setting a goal of $10,000 in donations to stop the hounds, get the therapy and get back to work.
I sincerely appreciate any help. With these funds I will get back to work. I've overcome bigger medical odds than this in my life.
