I am raising capital funds to provide transportation to our clients and students that can not get to our RAW Therapy or S3 Aquatics Program due to disability, lack of community transportation services, or working parent.
We want to provide transportation for our clients to and from the pool for RAW Aquatic Therapy Services or S3 Aquatics Program because not all people who need our programming, can get there.
Aquatic therapy is renewing, restorative and relaxing to our clients from special needs to athletes, kids to grandparents and everyone in between. We have found a main barrier for clients to attend aquatic therapy with us, is because they cannot drive due to their disability or their support network can not get them there. Also, we live in an area where city/suburb bussing is not accessible, leaving these clients completely bound to their house.
We also found too many kids can not attend our community outreach Learn to Swim program, S3 Aquatics Program that serves all ages and abilities. Lack of transportation is a barrier to participation when a parent/guardian are working and can not get them there. A child of a single working parents are affected for this reason even more.
This is a solvable issue.
Thankfully we were pretty much gifted an mid-mileage SUV that can transport 7 students/clients to either RAW Therapy or S3 Aquatics Program. However, major sludge was found in the engine and now the vehicle requires completely refurbished engine.
The estimated cost to repair the engine alone is $5000. I am asking for additional funds to pay for staffing, gas, insurance, and other operating costs as well as, special transportation costs for our clients who utilize a wheelchair.
Because this SUV can not transport clients or students who are wheelchair bound (can not transfer to this SUV), we will need to contract with a medical transportation company to safely transport them to and from any of our therapies, services and programs.
I am also looking into grants and company sponsorship to also assist with this capital expense and make this feature sustainable. Total request to raise for this campaign is $13,000 to end in late spring, right before our summer programs start.
