We have established a 3-stage plan to replace ties that are needed to extend the longevity of our major income for the museum, the rides. Although not critically needed this very moment we feel that within the next few years areas would need attention to continue the safety of the patrons and volunteers, so we are starting now before we get to that point. Michigan Transit Museum (MTM) has procured funds through grants, donations and income raised through the rides to currently replace 450 ties this spring along with installing tie plates and ballast where needed. This is totaling just under $17,000 and will take place when the weather breaks. We are asking for donations to increase the number of ties that we can replace this spring so that we can get more bang for the buck while crews are already on location and better prices for larger quantity orders of supplies.
