What do Michele Obama and The Rainbow Players have in common? Both are invited to participate in the Opening Ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics!  The Rainbow Players are invited to be an international partner with Imagineer Production’s “Godiva Awakes” a project involving 11 youth groups from the U.K., about 220 in all, participating in the Opening Ceremonies that begin in Coventry and continue onto the field in London.  The troupe was recommended by a theater colleague involved with social justice theater at CUNY in New York City for their extraordinary work in social justice theater and advocacy.  For youth, the questions around the world coalesce in the theme of “Fairness/Justice/Equality” or “what does the future hold for youth?”  And even more challenging: “what does the future hold for youth with disabilities?”  The statistics that predict 4 out of 5 youth with disabilities will NOT be able to find jobs are more than bleak.  It could seem hopeless.

It is to illustrate this question, with possible answers and linking groups across thousands of miles and cultures, that links The Rainbow Players with “Godiva Awakes”.  For the last 15 years, “The Rainbow Players”, have been presenting their stories and the stories of countless other people with labels of disability through performing and presenting at festivals and conferences across the country and across the ocean!  Now, they have an opportunity of a lifetime, to be mentors and advocates for youth with developmental disabilities, on an international stage.

We're 25% There...!  $640! This is a once in a lifetime event!  We were INVITED...  It's a great event dealing with all the issues near and dear to our hearts- Equality, Fairness and Justice.  AND... it's all done in a Carnival Style outdoor theater event!  In Coventry, England on July 28/29 to continue and culminate on Aug. 4/5 in London!  We are sending our measurements for costumes to be designed for us so we ARE planning on being there!  Please think about the kind of empowering message you give when you offer support to people who, by birth or accident, happen to have a "disability" label.  ... By birth or accident... Yet, so much of life has been denied them.  Help us in this wonderful opportunity!  Thanks so much!
