Then Sings My Soul: Post-Production Fundraiser

Then Sings My Soul: Post-Production Fundraiser

From Derrick & Christy Collins

In 2016, we spent 8 months in 4 countries capturing stories about the love that God has for his children. Editing it together into a 45-minute film is nearly complete, and we need help in the final post-production stage!

Did you know that all the films you watch undergo the artistry of a colorist? Just take a look at the difference of in-camera color profile and the brilliant color work of Dan McCullum . This is so much more complex than a filter! This is really difficult work, especially when the footage didn’t get shot under all the usual lights of a movie set, but was limited mostly to the light of the sun! Dan you are the best!!

Please consider supporting Dan and other post-production artists for this film. The post-production budget is just under 2/3 funded with a deadline of February 15th. Would you consider helping us get there? Any gift from $10+ puts your name in the credits!

We are Derrick and Christy — whether you've known us for a long time, we've only recently met, or perhaps we haven't met, check out the 5-minute video above for a summary of the passion project we've been engaged with for the last several years!

This film is about how God reveals himself to his people and how their souls sing in response to that revelation. The goal of creating this film has always been that it might be a gift to the Christian Church. We are humbled by the support we have received during the journey, and awed by the ways in which God has been faithful to constantly reveal the next step along the way.

Now in the final phases of post-production, we are looking to collaborate with a couple of artists — Dan McCullum as colorist and Orlando Joel as music composer — to bring together the final elements that go into creating a beautiful film. Funds raised though this campaign will help compensate the two of them for their artistic contributions.

We hope to be able to complete this film over the next couple months and release it in Spring 2019!

Update #1

Then Sings My Soul is closer than ever to completion! An update from Christy:

Last week, Erin Rose and Orlando Palmer recorded the opening song to the film we have been dreaming about and working on for years.

Then Sings My Soul is a film formed from intimate audio interviews that we captured with four humans in four countries, telling stories and sharing their thoughts about God, pieced together with footage from their lives. All of the footage was shot during our 8-month journey back in 2016. The film is now in the postproduction stage during which Orlando is composing the score. We have gotten the chance to hear large portions of what he’s been working on and we can easily say that the music he is creating is giving a movement and unity to the soul of the film that it needed!

It’s hard to describe just how surreal it was for me to be in the recording studio with Erin & Orlando, with all the flashing imagery of these varying lives and countries set to the live soundtrack these two souls were making. This journey has been more expansive — sprawling more years than I had realized when we first started — but the Lord has been in each new curve and shift of terrain, and he’s been beyond faithful to provide the pieces, the people, the connection and the provision needed to keep traveling.

I am so excited to share that soon our journey with the making of this film will be complete, and it will go on to live a life of its own. Our job has been to be vessels through which God creates what he wants it to be, and I feel a lot like a very pregnant mother, ready to do the work of labor, ready to help this piece emerge into the world and grow within its own body, living the life it is meant to.

Whether this is your first discovery of this project or you have been walking with us since it was just a vague dream, we are thankful for believing in this film. This film is a gift to the church, but we still have a little farther to go to be able to share it. Our goal release date is April 2019. Please consider helping us raise the remaining funds needed to compensate the talented and genuine artists who have partnered with us in this final post-production stage.
