Hannah Finch is running the London Marathon for Whitelands, a woodland restoration project in the South Downs. We aim to support eco-education, sustainable resources, and (most of all) biodiversity.
Wow! We can't believe we have smashed our first target of £400! Shall we see if we can double it?
You are all amazing.

The Whitelands Project is a woodland restoration project in the South Downs. It was initiated in 2002, by Jonathan West, a forester and ecologist. Jonathan aimed to restore the 30 acre conifer plantation and 10 acre arable field into native woodland. In doing so he hoped to support local businesses with the woodland’s sustainable resources, as well as providing a space for hands on ecological education.
However, in April 2018, Jonathan died unexpectedly in an accident.
“Whitelands is a sunlight-capturing factory that consumes about 30 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. It is run for wildlife and it needs interest, recruits and customers to drive the perpetuating woodland.”(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P71pyaAX2kA)
In May 2018, I took on my Dad’s project. Whitelands will now become a social enterprise, aiming to support both business and biodiversity, encouraging education and ecological understanding. It is hard work getting back on our feet, but I have had an overwhelming amount of support from friends and family alike, offering advice and assistance however they can. And now my amazing friend Hannah Finch has offered to run the London Marathon in aid of Whitelands!
The money raised by sponsoring Hannah will go directly into the Whitelands Project. It will go into replanting areas of the woodland affected by ash dieback, a severe tree disease sweeping through the UK. It will go towards making the woodland more accessible for school groups of all ages and stages, and it will help support local businesses in becoming greener and more sustainable. Over all, it will go into protecting Whitelands Wood as a haven for wildlife and green thinking.
I can’t thank you enough for reading this, and donating a little of your time or money. The tallest trees can grow from the smallest seeds, because a little goes a very long way.
Many many thanks!
