December 2020, the USCGC POLAR STAR will be embarking on a journey that will
bring a crew of one-hundred and fifty to Alaskan waters. A local non-profit is
committed to helping the troops have a meaningful Christmas and will
collaborate with other organizations who support the USCG.
The Alaska Navy League Council #151, is a non-profit citizen group supporting the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Marine Corps, and U.S. Flagged Merchant Marine. The organization is most popularly known as the group that planned the historical USS ANCHORAGE Ship Commissioning in 2013.
The heavy Ice Breaker will visit Dutch Harbor, Alaska, preceding a deployment to the Arctic. The local Navy League is working on collecting items and raising funds for the following:
· Hand-written cards for entire crew (150);
· Stockings and stocking stuffers;
· A coffee bar sponsorship for the on-board espresso bar;
· Corporate donations to hold a community event in Dutch Harbor; and
· Increased broadband data for communications to loved ones during the holidays.
