The process of rabbit farming is also known as Cuniculture. It is the traditional agricultural practice of breeding and raising domestic rabbits for meat, fur, and wool. Cuniculture is carried out to improve the breeding process better by the exhibition of all efforts. This farming process has been spread since the last of the 5th century.

The basic purpose of rabbit breading is meat, wool, and laboratory use. They are also raised due to their skin and hide. Many youth programs breed and use in multiple projects and curricula. Moreover, according to a 2017 survey and research, the Census of Agriculture explains that almost 4000 farms are sold to 500,000 rabbits nationality.

Width Of Rabbit Farming In Uganda:

In recent years, rabbit farming in Uganda has been actively promoted on a large scale. It provides multiple quick business opportunities within unlimited potential markets. The capital city of Uganda, known as Kampala, is trying to develop the rabbit industry that can meet the commercial production system based on high costs investments. 

All the operations, including breeding stock, shelter for rabbits, and wire hutches, are declared non-profitable while performing rabbit farming in Uganda. Moreover, in Kampala, only two meat markets, some restaurants, and only one university sell rabbit meat. However, most commercial producers faced losses. 

The Present Growth OF Rabbit Farming In Uganda:

Besides this, the present worth of rabbit farming is waning in Uganda. However, the rabbits can benefit many people, including their families, at the grassroots level by following up on the village-based rabbit program. Many people found rabbit farming economically and nutritionally beneficial. 

However, the appropriate and timely rabbit training along with market development activities are crucial. The utmost management of rabbit farming in Uganda fosters the gradual consumption of rabbit meat in the villages. One can say that it is a short-term goal, and the expansion of formal markets for rabbit meat is a long-term goal. 

Breedings And Domestication:

Under the warren system, many rabbits are managed and harvested, but they are not domesticated due to many reasons. One can say that the practice of rabbit domestication comes into being from the traditional methods of Rome. The Biggest countries, including Europe and the Middle East, kept rabbits. 

The breeding and domestication were done so that all breeds of rabbits were allowed to wander freely or kept in a group in pits or courts. All individuals can hold the authority to eat these animals. However, professional Rabbit keepers in Uganda transferred rabbits to individual hutches or pens for easy cleaning, handling, or selective breedings. 

Commercial Benefits At International Level:

Rabbit farming in Uganda also adds much to the international level. The rabbit's rapid reproductive cycle allowed for marked progress towards a breeding goal in a short period. Moreover, rabbit farming offers various other uses. Regardless of their meat, the dog owners love to feed their pets on rabbit heads and offals.

Their waste products, including urine and feces, can be useful in manufacturing compost or manure making. Hence, multiple experiments are performed to make their production and breed better. One can say that rabbits themselves are the tools for scientific research. Hence, this contributes a lot to the commercial benefits at international levels.
