We're taking a bite out of childhood hunger, obesity, while rallying for improved nutrition education programs! Yes it's possible! How? By connecting children with the food they're growing and eating! These hand-on programs - with a strong focus on Nutrition Education, Science, Math, Sustainability, Conservation, are engaging and form the foundation for a transformative education. This holistic approach to education involves schools, parents, and the community.
Introducing Independence Gardens - a parent-led 501c3 organization founded on all of the premise above.
Our Mission: 50 Elementary Outdoor Learning Gardens in 5 years. All of the Gardens in our Network will have a strong focus on Science, Math, Nutrition - and will include Fine Arts and Technology. It's a partnership with the schools, parents, and the community. Each one of our School Gardens will grow fruits and vegetables, promote sustainability and conservation.
Short Term Goals:
1. Fund 20 new Outdoor Gardens within 2 years.
2. Extend Nutrition Programs such as Come and Eat It! to 20 campuses by 2020. This alone will impact over 2,000 children.
3. Sustainability in 20 Campuses
4. Implement Little Sprouts in 10 Pre-K programs
