West Side Arts Un, Limited, a 501(c)3 non-profit, is currently spearheading the fundraising for a youth music hub, The New State

Milwaukee is enjoying a musical renaissance, but the youth have consistently lacked outlets to explore and hone their crafts. The city’s youth are eager to prove their worth as a new generation of artists and leaders. It’s on us to rise to the occasion and create these desperately needed youth spaces.

The New State is a redevelopment project lead by the minds, hands, and hearts of those who care about our cities future in arts education and entertainment. The building is a historical facility in Milwaukee’s Near West Side in the need of serious renovation after a devastating fire in 2017, that will contribute towards the financial, artistic and social well-being of our city. The theater opened as a silent movie house in 1915 and later, in the 1970’s-80’s, became a venerable rock venue for now world famous bands as The Palms Music Club. The venue hosted U2, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Ramones, and Metallica and many more.

With your help, and once finished with renovation, The New State will become a hotbed for youth arts and will house a combination of non- and for-profit businesses, sharing and collaborating in the space. This will include:

− Contemporary, all-ages, sober MUSIC VENUE

− Professional SOUND ENGINEERING STUDIOS, including MAMMYTH AUDIO

− Consignment STORE for local artists and performing acts

− A NON-PROFIT, WEST SIDE ARTS UN, LIMITED, providing CLASSROOMS and PERFORMANCE SPACE for youth classes and workshops focusing on modern music (hip hop/rap, electronic), performance skills and professional development as musicians.

The current board includes John Hennessy of Hennessy Group, Allyson Nemec of Quorum Architects, Charles Forsberg of Mammyth Audio, WebsterX of FREESPACE, Andrew Parker of Manderley Bed & Breakfast, Dima Pochtarev of Unifi Records, Barbara Tracey of St. Michael's Parish, Promise Bruce of V100.7, Clara Tracey of Four Corners Fair Trade, and Janice Vogt of FREESPACE.

West Side Arts Un, Limited (WSAU), is registered as a 501(c)3 non-profit and is awaiting confirmation of its tax-exempt status. The Thank You! letter provided with your donation will ensure your donation is tax-deductible as soon as WSAU receives its tax-exempt status.
