“Mazie, don’t look!” Is what my boyfriend shouted before I saw the tiniest kitten scrambling in the busy road. It had just been run over by the car in front of us. It looked very hurt. We pulled over and scooped her up. We rushed her to the hospital. She had no control of her bowels and released herself on me multiple times. Poor little thing was terrified. After much money and time later that night, the hospital informed us that her legs and pelvis were fine much to our surprise. Her tail, however, was fractured badly at the base of her spine. This may cause a myriad of issues- the worst being permanent incontinence. They recommend a tail amputation. After a call to our primary vet, we received a quote for up to $2,500 to take her tail. My boyfriend and I have already put over $500 into her care and have bonded with the little calico. We want to adopt her and give her the life she deserves. But our savings account is not equipped to handle a $3,000 rescue mission. We will not stop fighting for her. She loves chin scratches and purrs so loudly. She wants to play and be the kitten she was meant to be- but unfortunately she found herself in some of the busiest traffic in our city. We will continue to keep everyone updated on the kitten- who we have decided to name Harvest.
