Update #3

:-( The Learning Garden has had a tragic loss. Many of our seedlings that we started a few weeks ago have perished after a night out in the rain. Although they were covered the wind blew off the lid and had it's way with them. BUT that's ok this is what gardening is all about; you win some you loss some. Back to the drawing board. Please take the time to hit the share button and if you have a few dollars to spare make a donation.

More Info

(BEFORE YOU BEGING READING PLEASE NOTE THAT THE "CHOOSE YOUR GIVING LEVEL" IS NOT ACCURATE. PLEASE GIVE WHAT EVER YOU PLEASE)

WHO ARE WE: We are a small group looking to grow our membership that recently attained a plot of land from the City of New York. Here's a link of the program for more information  - https://greenthumb.nycgovparks.org.

OUR WHY: We live in a food desert plagued by underlining health issues such as diabetes and obesity.  We have limited access to fresh food and an abundance of unhealthy fast food that needs to be cured by projects fighting to stop the cycle of unhealthy eating by educating and implementing an action plan for change.

Our goal: To rebuild our community garden and turn it into an educational environment that can serve all members in our community. It will supply enriching knowledge about growing and eating fresh food and improve our overall health while beautifying our corner of Queens.

HOW WE'LL DO THIS:

Stage one- Rebuild the garden

Stage two- Plant crops

Stage three- Plan out Community events that work on building awareness such as BBQ's, Block parties, paint night, weekend camps etc.

WHAT THE FUNDS WILL BE USED FOR: While Greenthumb will supply us with an abundance of free resources such as wood, soil and the land we still need to buy things like a BBQ, informational flyers, tables, chairs, permits for special events, and other food and event related material.

TRACK OUR PROGRESS: All donators will go on a email list that will grant them access to the gardens finances so they can see in real time what funds are being used for. They will also get notification of events and Fundly will also be updated with any and all developments that happen in the garden.

Update #2

This is exciting news. Today we got our ceramic pots that once built will help us save time, money, energy and water. Thousands of years ago ancient civilization would bury round clay post, filled with water and the pots would leach out water when ever the soil was dry, as needed. This made it easier to tend to the garden. Our #1 goal is to work smart not hard. Today similar pots are very expensive but a simple DIY project has the same effect Join us this Saturday 10:30am. It's going to e a beautiful day. . 171-03 120th Ave Jamaica New York 11435.
