For anyone who knows Susan, you know she is a FIGHTER. Susan suffers from Li-Fraumeni Syndrome (LFS), which an inherited familial pre-disposition to a wide range of certain (often rare) cancers. The tumor suppressor gene, TP53, is either damaged (or otherwise rendered malfunctioning) and is unable to help prevent malignant tumors from developing. Susan has fought the following cancers thus far:
Susan has recently suffered the unimaginable loss of her best friend, soulmate, and husband of 32 years (37 together). Susan and John had recently moved to the Pittsburgh area for a new job opportunity for John. They moved while Susan was in the midst of her 6th cancer battle, and Susan was scheduled to have surgery to remove her stomach in order to ensure her stomach cancer would not spread. When John unexpectedly passed away, Susan's insurance coverage ended at midnight that evening. She will now have to pay an enormous amount of money for Cobra insurance.
The condo in which Susan and John were living in is refusing to make any sort of consideration for Susan's current circumstances. Susan needs to move back to Nebraska as the next step in her cancer battle requires her to have help and support to recover after her stomach is removed. The condo association is insisting she continue to pay for her lease through August, which is too much of a financial burden for Susan since she can no longer count on John's salary.
Susan has lost MANY loved ones due to LFS, more than anyone person should endure in one lifetime. Susan lost her mother at the age of 12. Her mother was only 41 at the time. She then lost her niece, Schulyer, who was just 9 years old, and then lost Schulyer's brother, Josh, at 19 years old. Susan's brother, Mike (Schulyer and Josh's father), also died at the young age of 52.
Susan is the kind of person that would give her last dollar away to someone in need, and I know many of us are looking for any way to support her during this awful time. Any money donated will be used to cover medical expenses for her upcoming surgery, as well as relocation costs to get Susan back home to Lincoln, NE.
