In effort to democratize access to wellness for our community we are raising funds to provide yoga and wellness programing at no cost. Funds will also be used towards The Healing Yoga scholarship.
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, African Americans are more likely to experience serious mental health problems than the general population, but only 1 in 3 African Americans who need mental health care receive it.
Our mission is to normalize the conversation around wellness and mental health for black men and offer relevant programing that help lower the barriers of entry into this space.
This year, we are focused on providing a variety of programing at no cost, which include yoga, mediation, and sound healing. We are hoping to scale our reach by going deeper and wider within the Chicago Community and also expanding our impact on a national level.
Our goal this year is to impact 1000 + black youth and men.
In addition to providing services at no cost, we are also looking to increase representation in the yoga space by certifying at least 4 black men interested in gaining their 200 hour yoga certification as less than 5% of yoga instructors are black. The numbers are even lower for black men.
By increasing representation and accessibility, we believe that we can help our community in achieving a higher quality of being.
