Project Proposal

The question of who am I, is one we each ask ourselves, usually beginning in our teens and related to our autonomy and individuality.  It is a normal and expected phase in our path to adulthood.  But what if part of that question revolves around our relationship to our gender assignment?

The Gender ProjectReimagining Gender was created to examine the way we see ourselves in relationship to our gender, and to create a space where we can reinvent ourselves within a non-binary context.  Traditionally people embraced the gender roles assigned to us at birth but that is no longer assumed. Not everyone holds fast to these rules, finding it restrictive to expressing their authentic selves. The role of gender has expanded to include new terminology.  This attempts to blur the distinctions created by more rigid and neatly defined gender definitions.  As more people are choosing to live on a spectrum so has the use of gender neutral pronouns including they / them / their. In fact, as of September 2019 they has been defined in Merriam Webster’s dictionary as a pronoun of choice for someone who doesn’t identify as either male or female.

In order to bring light to this new language, I am creating a multimedia exhibit including large format reproductions of my portraits and video clips of the interviews and questionnaires I have been conducting with people along the gender spectrum..  It I a labor of love for me as it is opening up conversations in ways I  never expected. Donations will go toward editing videotaped interviews, Printing images, designing a website and for technical equipment. Donations will also help with the design, production and promotion of the project to mount in a gallery    space or museum.

Please support my campaign to follow my project and share with your friends.

10% of all donations will go to:
