The Crucible (https://www.facebook.com/michiganscrucible) is a self-supported endurance hike to raise money for charity. This year's proceeds will benefit Blue Star Service Dogs (www.bluestarservicedogs.org).
Their mission is to provide our military veterans diagnosed with PTSD and TBI another method of healing through service dogs and training. Through their programs, they seek to help heal visible and invisible wounds, provide families with new beginnings, and raise awareness about the potential of shelter and rescue dogs everywhere.
Endurance hiking is defined as any day hike of at least 20 continuous miles along backcountry trails. We chose 22 miles along the waterloo-pinckney trail to represent the number of veterans lost every day to suicide.
The Crucible will begin and end at Portage lake: https://caltopo.com/m/48KVA
Participants will have 12 hours to complete the route.
