All -
Happy Giving Tuesday! Many have asked for me to send out a year-end reminder to make a tax-deductible donation to The Christopher Labbadia Memorial Fund (501©(3) - #81-120640) so I decided to do so – with a small ask to you all in return. If you personally know someone that could benefit from the Chris Cares touch, please email me directly at rocco0718@comcast.net and let us see if there is something that we can do to brighten their day.

We all have an opportunity to make an impact on peoples lives; I like to believe that even as we near 3 years since leaving us, Chris continues to be a reminder of how much the little things mean to people – a smile, a laugh or even a look. The small things can make someone feel accepted, supported, comfortable, and unafraid.

The self-portrait of Chris attached to this post shows a boy – carefree and artistic; part dreamer and part determined to capture all that he could by living in each moment. I am happy to say that I know that he did that and much more.

Please continue to help us help others enjoy each moment of this precious life!

Update #13

Many thanks to all of our friends and family that helped pull off the greatest neighborhood tag sale in honor of Chris!! On July 16th the streets of Cobblestone and Brownstone in Berlin were bustling with people from all parts, looking for a treasure and at the same time supporting the Christopher Labbadia Memorial Fund. The day was bright and we were able to share stories of Chris and hand out the 2018 Chris Cares Challenge cards… always looking to spread kindness in his name.

Please find the article that was written in the Berlin Citizen here: http://www.myrecordjournal.com/News/Berlin-Citizen/Berlin-News/Berlin-tag-sale-raises-money-for-scholarships.html

Many, many thanks to our neighbors that made this day a success!! With their help, we were able to raise $2000 to support the Christopher Labbadia Memorial Fund and all money will continue to be used to support those in need, as well as, the annual Berlin High School scholarship fund that is awarded in Chris’ name annually.

Thank you all for the continued love and support! If you receive this email update, please share with a friend or two… and encourage them to join our website as a “Supporter”.

Thank you -
Rocco

Update #12

All –
It is with great pleasure to announce that Ryan Toce is this year’s Berlin High School recipient of the annual Christopher Labbadia Memorial Scholarship. Ryan, a senior at Berlin High School, was awarded $1000 and will be pursuing a career in Social Work at Central Connecticut State University this coming year.

Brittany and I were pleased to receive many applications/essays this year but it was Ryan’s thoughtfulness, honesty and desire to help others that helped to guide our decision. Like Chris, Ryan has a passion for cars, hard work and a love and dedication to his friends and family.

We are only looking to help make a small difference in someone’s life – we hope that this scholarship helps get Ryan on his way!

As always, Happy, Healthy & Safe –

Update #11

Its been 2 years… and Chris’ spirit continues to live stronger than ever!!

Thank you to all that have continued to support each other and embrace the opportunity to show kindness to others. We kicked off the 2018 #ChrisCaresChallenge this year with 48 of Chris’ friends by teaming up with the Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity to help build homes for people in need. Two days of kindness, sweat and fun went a long way toward pushing the project closer to completion.

The event was a powerful reminder that there is a tremendous amount of GOOD in this world and in a very short period of time we were also able to raise over $2100 in donations for the area Habitat for Humanity.

I’m pretty sure that Chris would make you laugh or smile if you were feeling a little down – remember his smile and feel empowered to know that small acts of kindness go a very long way

Update #10

All -
We wanted to take a few minutes to extend our thanks for your donations, monetary gifts and participation in the 2017 ChrisCaresChallenge – all of which are greatly appreciated! With your assistance we have been able to keep Chris’ spirit alive through acts of kindness, scholarships, and monetary gifts to those in need; that have included: assistance for the loss of loved ones, illness, medical costs, births and donations to local church and charities to benefit many, many more people. The Christopher Labbadia Memorial Fund is now an established not for profit entity and all donations will continue to be used to support people in need.

As we move into 2018 we are looking to kick-off the year with a new #ChrisCaresChallenge by partnering with the local Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity to help continue to pay Chris’ kindness forward, Chris friends and family will by volunteering their time and energy to help make a difference.

We continue to encourage everyone to take the #ChrisCaresChallenge and keep Chris’ spirit alive by “paying it forward” with an act of kindness. Together, we can all help to make a difference in someone’s life.

On behalf of all of Chris' dear friends and family, thank you for helping us heal and help others along the way.

Always stay Happy, Healthy & Safe,

Update #8

Thank you to all the Berlin High School seniors that submitted essays for a chance to receive the 2nd annual Christopher Labbadia Memorial Scholarship this year. The essays helped make it a great week to remember Chris and all the things that made him who he was.

Congratulations to this year’s winners: Daniel Labbadia, $1000; Jeremy Kinney, $500 and Alexa Crowley $500. Like last year, it was too difficult to give out only 1 award so we decided on 3! Here is an excerpt from Alexa’s essay regarding LOVE, ACCEPTANCE and LOYALTY, that I had the honor of reading at this year’s awards night at Berlin High School:

Letting go of what matters to myself in order to benefit those that I care about.
Overseeing the differences in others.
Valuing time spent with friends and family.
Elevating ones confidence and love towards one self.

Allowing myself to see the perspective and point of view of others.
Contributing my thoughts and ideas to help those that need support.
Creating bonds that last a lifetime.
Entering a room I search for the opportunity to meet new people.
Physical and personal differences do not determine worth in society.
Taking the time to appreciate small gestures that lead to happiness.
Addressing people by their name to show that they are important.
Never letting anyone sit alone.
Challenging the community to address stereotypes that are often overlooked.
Evolving in order to seek past social norms.

Letting people see the real me through laughter and kindness.
Overcoming trials in relationships.
You are not alone.
Always standing up for those that are afraid to stand up for themselves.
Lending a hand to a friend in need.
Taking time out of my day to really listen to a friend in need.
Yes, I am here you no matter what.

Thank you again for your continued love and support AND it is still not too late to take the #ChrisCaresChallenge by doing an act of kindness, posting it and challenging 3 others to do the same.

Happy, Healthy & Safe,

Update #7

We want to say congratulations to Richard Adams, the Winner of the M&M NASCAR fundraising package and thank you to EVERYONE that helped to make this fundraiser a success! Rich and three of his guests will be treated by the M&M’s Team to a VIP weekend of NASCAR excitement (4 Hot Pit Passes, $250 gift card and NASCAR/M&M/Kyle Busch goodies) at the track of their choice.

We would like to personally extend our thanks to the Mars Candy Company for the generous NASCAR package donation that was used for this fundraising raffle, The Summer Knights Car Club for inviting us to attend and donating space for our booth!! A special thanks to Scott Zipadelli (long time NASCAR Crew Chief and Berlin, CT native) and his son Rocco (so cute!!) for picking the winning name!

The fundraising event raised a little over $5000 and we are all very thankful for your continued generosity. The Christopher Labbadia Memorial Fund has continued to support people in need and we will soon be providing a scholarship (or 2) to a Berlin, CT high school senior for having shown the characteristics that most resembled those of Chris.

We continue to encourage everyone to take the #ChrisCaresChallenge and perform an act of kindness in Chris’ name and challenge 3 others to do the same… no act is too small to make a difference!

Sincerely,
Rocco Labbadia

Update #6

The Chris Cares Challenge

On January 16, 2016, a little past midnight, Chris' precious life was tragically lost in a single car accident less than a half mile from the safety of his home. Chris had driven to a neighboring town to drop off a wallet to a friend who had left it behind earlier that night... a final act of kindness.

Chris was known to be protective and accepting of all that surrounded him; family and friends alike. He was fondly called the "baby whisperer" for his uncanny ability to be nurturing to the very young and he was equally accepted by the very old. Chris cared.

The Chris Cares Challenge is a way for all of us to make a small difference in this world through one or more acts of kindness. Together we can all play a part in creating a viral movement of kindness... the boundaries are truly limitless.

Please feel empowered to take "The Chris Cares Challenge"; no act of kindness is too small or large. Look inside yourself and see what you are passionate about and believe that an act of kindness can make a difference. Smile and feel good.

Let's all make 2017 a great year to remember! Please post your act of kindness with #ChrisCares and challenge 3 more people to do the same.

On behalf of all of Chris' dear friends and family-THANK YOU!!

Always be Happy, Healthy & Safe,

Update #5

It is with great sadness that I write this update… my beloved mother, Angelina Labbadia, lost her battle with cancer on Monday October 17, 2016 (Obituary: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/hartfordcourant/obituary.aspx?pid=182009133) joining Chris in a much better place. Chris and my mom had a special bond and it was clear that the past nine months, since Chris’ passing, had grown physically more and more difficult for her. I can only smile when I imagine how great the meeting must have been between them; Chris with open arms and a giant smile, as my mom approached him, “Nonna, what took you so long?!” and of course, followed by that classic Chris laugh 

I thought that it might be nice to remember my mom for who she always was – Angelina the ANGEL. The kindest, sweetest, most compassionate and religious person I have ever known. My mother never turned her back on anyone; always willing to help in whichever manner she could: feeding friends, family and strangers; sitting through every baseball, softball, soccer, football, and volleyball games; and praying for the happiness, health and safety of all that she knew and even those she did not for generations!

I could write a novel about how my mom has influenced so many and me but I guess it is best to say that she was my “ROCK”; providing the strength and stability to take chances and accept change as a way of life. Chris and my mom have left this world ahead of us, and I challenge us all to look to continue to make a difference in any way that we can.

Thank you all for your continued love and support. Your donations and generosity to The Christopher Labbadia Memorial Fund on behalf of Chris and Angelina will continued to be used to support those in need and in addition, the annual Chris Labbadia Berlin High School $1000 Scholarship that was established to keep Chris’ spirit of “Love, Acceptance, Loyalty, Passion and Laughter” alive for many, many years to come.

Always – Happy, Healthy & Safe,
Rocco Labbadia

Update #3

Hello All Supporters!!

This evening The Summer Knights car club graciously donated a $500 check in the name of The Christopher Labbadia Memorial Fund. The club was first founded 25 years ago and ever since then, their passion for cars and humanity has shown through their support of numerous local charities, foundations and I am proud to say they added our fund to their generosity.

With their added support, The Christopher Labbadia Memorial Fund has climbed above $37,000, moving the fund a step closer to the goal of 100K! I look forward to not only attending their signature show, "The Show & Shine Swap Meet" next April 30th 2017 at the Berlin Fair Grounds but also working our very first "Chris LABZstrong" V-Dub car booth - I hope to see you there!

If you have not had a chance to donate but would like to do so, please do not hesitate - all donations will go directly to the fund and will be used to support local students, or simply someone in need of a little love and support when its needed.

Thank you all for your continued support, love and strength,

We are happy to announce the winners of the first ever Christopher Labbadia Memorial Scholarship Awards!!
Eric DeFrancesco is the recipient of the $1000 scholarship and Ethan Hansen was awarded a $500 scholarship!! Eric will be attending Quinnipiac University and Ethan will be attending UCONN in the fall.

The award winners were asked to write a small essay and describe how they best represent those qualities that Chris lived his life by : Love, Acceptance, Loyalty , Passion and Laughter.

We would like to thank everyone for their continued support; without your continued generosity, this would not have been possible! Note: Samantha DeFrancesco was kind enough to accept the award for Eric (lacrosse state game).

It was great to share a piece of Chris tonight!
