We are raising money to fund after school programs for our aspiring youth in Newark. Donations will go towards books, supplies & travel fees for the course. We ask that you support our campaign and follow our progress.
We applaud retailer Magic Sneaker for their continued dedication to our community. They were the first to join us in partial sponsorship of the "Art of Shoe Making 101" course at Weequahic High School!
We Do Shoes. That's where our journey began. It started in our teenage years with a love of sneakers and continued into adulthood with a passion for all types of footwear. The truth is, most of us are footwear fanatics. Who wouldn't want to put their imagination to the test by learning to make their own?
In the 80's, sneakers became a big part of our culture. The marriage between fashion, sneakers, artists and music, coupled with the impact this combination had on creating trends, was the beginning of what we now refer to as "lifestyle influencer marketing".
Ours is a culture that is proficient in the origination of trends. Yet, opportunities to cultivate and support successful careers in the fields of fashion and footwear (industries that benefit from our trend creation) hasn't always been made easily accessible. With over 20+ years of experience in the industry, we are sharing our knowledge with young aspiring footwear designers, manufacturers, retailers and more in an effort to level the playing field.
Our course, the "Art of Shoe Making 101" is designed to offer students the chance to learn the shoe business from design to manufacturing. The goal is to promote expanded creativity at the middle school and high school levels while providing an in-depth knowledge of the industry. The idea is to offer valuable insight for students to determine whether pursuing a career path in footwear production is a fit for their creative genius. Or, it will at the very least allow scholars to experience a new way of thinking about their future and what is possible for them to achieve.
Our students are the new creatives. If they can dream it and have a strong desire and determination to create it, our goal is to not only teach them how to attain it but also support them along their respective journeys toward success.
All donated funds will be used to purchase art supplies, training materials and travel fees which includes field trips to fashion institutions and corporations in the local NY and NJ area. Students will also be afforded the opportunity to interact with current industry professionals via special guest speaker talks and webinars facilitated by Dirty Soles authorized speakers and team members.
