Lee Road 39 in Lee County, Alabama is affectionately known by the community and its residents as “Tateville.” On Sunday, March 3, 2019 at approximately 2:30 p.m. CST this close-knit community was ravished and destroyed by consecutive tornadoes. Ripping through the community at over 100 mph. Snatching homes, property and people from their foundation; tossing all in the air and spreading each of them across the rural Alabama landscape.
Clearing properties across more than 65 miles in area. Having “Tateville” look as if this family centered community never existed. Sheriff Jay Jones describes the once vibrant community as nonexistent and looking as if it has been “leveled with a knife.” We all know that property and material “things” can be replaced but loved ones lost at the vicious grasp of the tornadoes cannot. The Tate (nee’ Tateville), Stenson, Lilly, among other families all suffered tragic losses. This page is in tribute and to aid in raising funds and contributions to assist in the relief efforts for our family and life-long residents of “Tateville” /Lee Rd. 39.
