On Saturday June 1st we drove to Oklahoma with a truck and trailer full of items to donate to John’s mom, dad, sister and nephew who lost everything in the May 19th tornado in the Shawnee area. We also had many extra items such as diapers, wipes and basinets that will be spread out by his family to others. John’s sister took us to Newalla where here hill was hit and I was overcome with emotion as I looked at a hill that use to have seventeen houses and now there are none. We met a man there that was in the process of building a new house and had no home owners insurance yet so the $25,000 he had already put into the house was a total loss. He is also the man that saved the lives of two people by getting them out of their house and into a shelter in barley just enough time. There was one reported death from this hit.
Thanks to the donations from all of you we were able to get as new bed for John and Mary who both are disabled and have horrible back problems. They were like little children on Christmas morning when we brought them into John’s brother’s living room to see them. For once they got a good night sleep since the tornado hit. We took Lucy and Johnny shopping for some new clothes and items just needed to help boost morale. Johnny lost his Kindle and we purchased him a new tablet so he can be a normal little boy. The rest of the money is being used to help set up their new home once they find one.
We plan to make another trip up there again this month to help more people. I know we all forget after awhile but it is going to take a very long time to rebuild the lives of all of these lives that have been destroyed. <3
