Help Living Arts fill our nonprofit’s short-term $200,000 financial gap created by COVID-19 and launch online art programming to support the resilience of Detroit youth and families during this crisis.
School closures and shelter-at-home measures hit Living Arts during our busiest months of the year and have had a devastating impact on our Teaching Artists’ livelihoods. Many of our freelance artists will lose 40% or more of their total annual income as a result of the pandemic. We are gladly complying with social distancing to protect our community members. But halting services to schools and Head Start centers, closing our after-school program in Southwest Detroit, and canceling our annual fundraising event has created a 20% revenue loss in our $1M operating budget.
With generous gifts from dozens of sponsors and individual donors, we are now nearing the half-way mark to closing this gap. Early support of the campaign has provided emergency support for Teaching Artists. It has also made it possible for our staff and Teaching Artists to launch Living Arts At Home -- a series of remote music, writing, drawing, and dance programs to help children and adults alike to release and talk about their emotions and process the isolation, grief, and uncertainty they are experiencing using movement, creativity, and imagination.
Please give generously so that our Teaching Artists can nurture emotional wellness and resiliency in Detroit area homes throughout this crisis--and be prepared to bring inspiration and learning back to Detroit’s classrooms as soon as possible. Together, we will emerge from this crisis stronger than ever.
The Fundly crowdfunding platform does not require that a minimum amount be raised in order to release contributions. Your donation will be processed quickly and go directly to support Living Arts within seven days.
