The coronavirus pandemic is especially hard for the most vulnerable in our community, including the women of Georgia’s House who are all working diligently to sustain their recovery. Their journeys have been changed as they cope with losing jobs, lost social contact with family and friends, and shifting to online meetings and therapies. Ellen* (not real name) was feeling particularly down because of isolation and inability to join community college classes in person. She expressed her shame that she wanted to drink. The Georgia’s House community listened to her struggle and encouraged her to stay the course; many had been where she was. The encouragement and support of her fellow residents helped her through a rough time.
During this stressful time, your support is more important than ever to ensure that women struggling with drug and alcohol addiction have a safe and supportive place to live and heal from their disease. With your ongoing generosity, the steady hand of continuing guidance and structure offered by Georgia’s House helps the women to remain strong in their journeys. Your donation helps to sustain the residence and our life-giving program, strengthens our community and gives women a second chance.
Before getting accepted at Georgia’s House I was lost... I needed a huge change in my life, It was slowly spiraling out of control and I didn’t know how to fix it. Georgia’s House gave me a huge chance to change things. Having a structured schedule is a big part of recovery. I needed that to get my life back on track for my daughter, family, and most of importantly me. Georgia’s House didn’t just only give me that, they gave me a house full of women and staff who could relate to the things I have gone through, and (in some cases) still going through. These women and I have grown to be a part of one another’s lives; I know I can always call on one of them if I need to talk, be a friend and ask for advice.
When addiction takes over your life you begin to isolate from everyone and it feels like you have no one to turn to. I am thankful of having been accepted to GH, this is a wonderful program, it makes me accountable. I am one year clean! This program has helped me in several ways; I have completed 16 weeks of an Intensive Outpatient program. I have a certificate for completing a parenting class. I have a recovery sponsor and am currently working the steps. I attend daily AA meetings to help maintain my sobriety. Since I have gotten here, (in September) I’ve accomplished things that I wouldn’t have been able to on my own without this support.
