Dear friends of Eric and Brandy Payne:On Thursday May 9th, we are hosting a fundraiser in downtown Washington, D.C. to raise $25,000 or more to help Eric and Brandy Payne cover household and legal expenses associated with Eric’s fight against corruption in D.C. Please join us to show your support for the Paynes, and to connect with friends, neighbors and colleagues of Eric and Brandy.
The event will be held at:
Offices of True Blue Inclusion, 301 Tingey Street, S.E., 5th Floor Penthouse, Unit 33
Washington, D.C. 20003
Wine, Beer and Hors D’Oeuvres will be served.
Many thanks to Catherine Cornelius Smith for opening the beautiful offices of her firm, True Blue Inclusion, for this event. As many of you already know, Eric Payne has been involved in a very public effort to hold District officials accountable for misuse of public dollars. Eric was the Director of Contracts for D.C.'s Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) when he was asked to wrongfully steer a D.C. Lottery contract to a politically connected contractor. He refused to cooperate, and was subsequently demoted, ostracized and fired, despite a history of excellent work performance. Since his wrongful termination, Eric has used his case to expose a pattern of corruption across multiple agencies of the District of Columbia government. Due in part to his efforts:
A resolution of the litigation is months away at best. Meanwhile, Eric has suffered the fate of many whistleblowers – a side effect of his courage in taking these issues on is that he has not found a new position befitting his capabilities, and Eric and his family (including Brandy, Ian, and 1-year old Addison Alyse) has suffered great financial stress as a result.
Needless to say, this has been a trying and lengthy ordeal for the Paynes. We know that your presence at this event, and your willingness to contribute financially at any level you are able, will greatly aid his cause and give Eric and Brandy further strength to continue this important battle. Please join us at this event, and consider making a contribution Payne Family Trust. Please also forward this invitation to anyone who knows Eric, or who has an interest in effective and clean government in the District. Collectively, we can all demand greater accountability of our public officials, transparency in government and support the Payne family during this difficult time.
