The Moon: Infoshop & Community Space is a volunteer-run, non-hierarchical space for people to learn new skills, enjoy a local band, read political zines and books, or just grab a cup of tea and warm up for a few minutes.
We are an explicitly radical space, but we welcome everyone willing to contribute to a space of learning and community. Donations of food given to us are left out for passersby, or made into free meals for our events so that people can join us and not worry about dinner. We also leave clothes and other items out for people to take as they please. All of our events are donation based and sliding scale, no one turned away for lack of funds style.
We have used the space to organize around the water crisis in Newburgh, as well as LGBTQ+ and environmental issues in Newburgh and the Hudson Valley itself.
We have weekly radical film night, a bi-monthly figure drawing night, and a monthly collaborative art night, and many special events such as workshops learning about medicinal uses of mushrooms, drag shows, and punk shows!
Because we are a donation based event space, run entirely by broke volunteers, we decided to ask for monetary donations through this fundly to help towards rent and utilities to help us sustain this space. We want to focus on providing helpful workshops and fun events for the community, not making rent!
