We are fundraising to amplify the voices of sex workers' rights activists at the nation's most important anti-trafficking conference in March 18-19, 2020. HELP US RAISE $2,960 by March 1, 2020!
Freedom Network USA is a national alliance of anti-trafficking activists advancing a human rights-based approach to labor exploitation in the United States. Members of Sex Workers Outreach Project (SWOP) and current and former board members of St. James Infirmary are gathering to challenge the anti-trafficking movement (ATM) to think broadly and boldly about the future of their part in the anti-violence movement - is the ATM's dependency on law enforcement actually making our communities safe, or are they perpetuating institutional violence against communities that they have systematically marginalized and made vulnerable? We argue that it is the latter, and that this has further dictated access to resources, services, and leadership in the ATM, which then elevates only those deemed "fit/worthy," and excludes and dismisses everyone else. We will also speak to how reparations can be made towards communities that the ATM has harmed along the way, introduce the healthier outcomes of not engaging in "rescue & rehab," and facilitate creative imagining of the beyond.
The money raised will be used to fund the costs of air travel, lodging, food, and transportation for the speakers. One of our speakers is being covered by another entity, which means we need funding for our three other speakers!
Grand total: $2,460 for 3 people
