I have until Feb 21st to raise money to support myself and my brother keep our home, stabilize our living situation and get my brother the carpal tunnel surgery he needs to return to work.
Holy shit we did it! We raised enough to stop the eviction which was our first goal. Jaila is going to be so happy when she wakes up. We still need help but we won't lose the apt and we can keep our cats - Nate
I have been hit with a perfect storm of hardship in the last year, despite finally being able to leave an abusive work environment for what seemed like my dream job. This job was at large corporation and highly respected in its industry.
In October I was sexually assaulted three days before I started my new job. I have a lot of pressure on me. I'm currently supporting my brother who needs carpal tunnel surgery to return to work. My mental health suffered, a lot more than I was willing to admit. I worked obsessively because that job was the only way to save myself and my brother.
Last week, my landlord refused to accept my rent payment in favor of filing for eviction. I've been suffering from chronic insomnia and anxiety since my the incident in Oct. Not wanting my mental health to impact my job performance I contacted the mental health crisis counselor provided by my job through our insurance.
The next day I was terminated. I was told I would get one paycheck as severance and when I left the building I would have no health insurance, life insurance, legal aid, or prepaid transit cards.
My landlord has just moved my court date to the 21st of Feb, they have also asked for almost twice the amount of money I owed. With the loss of my job I no longer have or can afford a legal advocate. What little I've saved for the rent and my brother's medical needs will now not even cover what my landlord is demanding.
I'm at 27% of my overall goal and have 5 days to raise another $ 2,050 dollars to save my home! Thank you to everyone that has donated, shared and most importantly offered support and love. Your love resonates and has consoled me so much during this very difficult time.
