Since her childhood, Leisa has always been focused on nurturing, not only her children and those around her, but also the earth and the education that surrounds sustainable farming and agriculture. An environmentalist at heart, Leisa has dedicated much of her life to fighting for environmental reform and earth based living practices. As a teacher, farmer, artist, traveler, mother, and wife, she has always brought a grounded presence, and a lot of sarcastic humor, to all her interactions and connections.
Throughout the past decade, Leisa has been serving our small community in Salida by providing home-grown organic produce to local families and businesses through her CSA program. She is the proud owner and main farmer of Nomadic Roots Garden, Co-Founder of S.A.V.E Salida Seeds Library, The Ark Valley Fruit Tree Network, and partner in SOIL Sangre De Cristo. All of the above Organizations are local to her home county Chaffee, Colorado, and focus on supporting resilient local food systems.
I was raised by my mother in the mountains of Colorado, New Mexico, and Oregon, with not a moment passing by where I wasn’t reminded of the importance of connecting to the earth we live upon and how to nourish our bodies through healthy eating and body practices. Leisa is a living encyclopedia of herb and plant medicine, as well as organic small scale agriculture.
Leisa was recently diagnosed with advanced breast cancer. Her treatment if she stays in the US would be chemo, radiation, and surgery. If you know my mother she will always search out the most holistic, natural remedy. Her belief is that we are all creators and are able to harness that energy to heal. She is seeking treatment through Hope 4 Cancer, an accredited medical center that focuses on finding the root cause of cancer, healing it through full body philosophy, and creating a foundation for lasting health. The therapies offered here support the immune system while attacking the cancer unlike any treatment the US has to offer. Your donations will go directly towards payment for Leisa’s cancer treatment at Hope 4 Cancer Treatment Center in Cancun, Mexico.
Her intention is to be back on the farm this summer, please help her attain that goal!
