We are raising money to support Makala secure stable, autonomous housing in her hometown. We are hoping to raise $2000/ mo so she can continue to live, eat, and work in Oakland.
Makala is such an amazing force and community organizer in Oakland. She is dedicated to making queer and trans black and brown people feel beautiful and powerful. She is born and raised in Oakland and has been organizing for social justice since she was 16 years old! She deserves the ability to stay here and continue this work.
This year she has dealt with countless financial, family, and health crisis. With the onslaught of the pandemic, and the anti-Blackness of our economic and political systems, Makala needs support, and so we urge all those who have known Makala from the days of Occupy to commit to $20/month. If we can get 100 contributers, she will be able to pay for rent and bills without having to worry about lack of income during this strenuous time.
I have known Kala for almost a decade and I know that she ALWAYS redistributes when she has more than what she needs. She is one of the most generous and kind people I know, and helping her sustain is helping her heal generations of trauma. Join us in this journey!
