Kala is supporting her family right now due to a serious situation involving the police and other violence. She is in serious need of SUSTAINED funds so that she can support the people closest to her and really needs to find her own apartment as soon as possible. If you are able to donate to help disrupt the systematic violence that her family is resisting, it could be life changing.
From another friend and comrade "Today me and two comrades supported an escalating domestic violence and hostage situation to protect a single, disabled, Black mother. We witnessed this mother's brutal and heartbreaking arrest in front of her young child, all because her abuser called the police first, our transformative justice support work has now become jail support and fundraising"
We not only need to raise money for bail, hotel, food, and gas costs for the immediate future, but need to support Kala in finding a long term place to live by herself so she can fully support her family.

Makala is such an amazing force and community organizer in Oakland. She is dedicated to making queer and trans black and brown people feel beautiful and powerful. She is born and raised in Oakland and has been organizing for social justice since she was 16 years old! She deserves the ability to stay here and continue this work.
This year she has dealt with countless financial, family, and health crisis. With the onslaught of the pandemic, and the anti-Blackness of our economic and political systems, Makala needs support, and so we urge all those who have known Makala from the days of Occupy to commit to $20/month. If we can get 100 contributers, she will be able to pay for rent and bills without having to worry about lack of income during this strenuous time.
