Great news, everyone! Thanks to you, I now have enough to buy a 1 way ticket to WI, and will be making arrangements to travel out there within a week!! <Celebration!> Although, to be honest, I'm one of those people who cry any time someone is nice to me--particularly in matters related to the homicides--so you can imagine this celebration as involving snotty tissues. Don't be confused; they are tears of relief.

If you are able, however, please continue circulating this fundraiser. There are two projects in WI that require my presence, both projects the direct results of the homicides--the first has to do with the estate; the second is the January 30th hearing. If you don't know, the man who killed my family is petitioning to be released into the community and his case will be heard before the court on Jan 30th. Since I will be engaged in WI between now and then, I will not be working and earning money. As such, a major goal of this fundraiser is to cover living expenses like rent. It would be wonderful, if after the hearing, I could return to my home and not a storage unit.

Thank you again for helping make my life right now possible.

More Info

In 2016, Jacob Cayer murdered my mom Hee Sun and my little sister Sabrina.  They were the last living members of my family, which means that the very people I'd run to in a crisis like this were the very people Cayer killed.  As a result, everything fell to me: the estate, the fight for justice, keeping my mother and sister's legacies alive. There are not enough words to describe how massive and crushing this has been, and I wouldn't have been able to survive the weight of it all without my friends and the kindness of strangers.

The trial took 4 years to finally happen, concluding in August of 2020. During that 4 years, the trial was cancelled 7 times, sometimes just days before its scheduled start, after I had already traveled across the country to attend. The process was extremely expensive and exhausted my savings. I had hoped the trial would put an end to the court dates, but the jury found Cayer Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity--a verdict that the examining psychiatrist refutes. Cayer, Dr. Miller says, is not delusional; he is a liar who knows he is lying. But because Cayer managed to game the system, he is able to petition for release into the community every six months. This last May, Cayer filed his first petition for release. The hearing will be heard by the court on January 30th, and I must be there to speak out against it.

The only way I have been able to survive this is by asking for help.  If you can, I welcome your efforts.  If you cannot, I understand.  If possible, however, please pass this fundraiser along.  Please follow for updates.  I also accept virtual hugs.  What I am doing takes a community.  My family has been reduced to just me, but the world is large.  I hope to find compatriots all over.

With my sincere thanks,

Sarama Teague, the daughter and sister of Hee Sun and Sabrina.
