Family and friends, as many of you have been supporting me within the last two years at University Reformed Church for my pastoral and campus internship. I would like to kindly request of you for a continued financial assistance as I study at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Deerfield,IL) and as I additionally serve at The Redemption Church in Chicago, IL.
For those who are unaware, many seminarians that finish school and receive their degree are deeply in debt within their first several years of ministry. You can imagine, this cripples a minister and forces them to serve at a ministry that will offer them larger financial benefits, rather than serving at a church largely out of conviction. According to Lifeway, the average seminarian who are in debt rounds up to about $30,000-$40,000. This may not sound much in comparison to undergrad, but you couple this with the low-salary that most ministers receive in their first years of service, the interest inflates the cost to a level that is nearly un-payable and forces ministers to quit ministry work altogether. Some of you might ask, "Why not just work and study?" Well, many students who also take this route have historically deferred their time of completion, and lose their focus of studies and ministry at hand. I have even heard of testimonies from students who say their schedules are so busy with school and work that they lose the desire to finish their degree.
I am praying that I would avoid both of these dilemmas as I pursue my Masters of Divinity at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Which is why I desperately need your help for the next 3-4 years of my studies at the school while I serve at a local church. I have been fortunate and blessed by the school to receive a scholarship that will reduce half the original cost (this will leave me at about $8,000/year for my tuition). And in addition, The Redemption Church has generously given me a stipend of $1000/month for the next year (uncertain if ill be brought on for 3 more years).
However, the cost of living in the burbs of Chicago are much higher than in East Lansing. My rent is estimated to be at about $630/month, so I am praying that I will receive at least $10,000 per year to help aid the cost for personal expenses (health insurance, rent, travel, food, etc.) and tuition costs. So, if it is in your heart, would you partner with me and be blessed through the blessings I receive? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Please prayerfully consider to give!
