I am raising money to help for support for my moms recovery .Unfortunately the state has messed up her insurance paperwork so she will be without insurance for a few months. Please take the time to read her story.
As many of you may know my mom, Jody Lindsey got sick on the January 13. She went to the local ER on January 18, where they found three brain aneurysms. One had burst and was bleeding. She was taken to KU Medical Center in Kansas City, where she had a coiling done on the bleeding aneurysm on January 19. The surgery was a success.
About 12 hours post operation, she suffered vasospasms which cut off oxygen to her brain causing right-side paralysis. She suffered brain damage, which gave her aphasia and apraxia affecting her communication. She spent 6 weeks in the ICU fighting constant spasms and working hard to recover. After she stabilized, she spent 3 weeks in Acute Rehab. Things were looking good in rehab, but sadly she suffered a fall and broke her hip. She had to get a hip replacement on her right side and went back to the ICU for another three weeks.
Finally, after a long hard fight, she got to come home in March. This has been a very up and down hard time for all of us, but she has been very brave and has been working hard to get better. She is home now, but she still needs intense therapy and will continue to need it for at least a year.
A little about Jody:
Jody has been an active member of the Manhattan community for over 50 years. She attended K-State and taught English. She was substitute teacher for the USD 383 district for many years and really enjoys interacting with people and teaching.
She is very social and anyone who knows her knows she loves to talk and is well-known and liked around town. She is a big believer in having a strong community and has been very supportive of the Manhattan community. She is a very giving person and has helped out around the community whenever she has had the opportunity. She loves flowers/plants, history, and spending time with her grandkids!
She enjoys making historical posts on Facebook and is active in many history groups online. She is also a foodie. She enjoys her fair share of sweets, and even holds the record for most shakes drank in one day at the rehab center, 12 in one day!
We need the community’s help now. Unfortunately, the state messed up her medical insurance paperwork so she is currently without coverage. Her hospital bills were all covered, but since she has been home nothing is provided until her insurance kicks in, which could take several months. This includes care, food, medical supplies, medication and physical therapy/speech therapy.
For now, Jessi and I are watching and taking care of our mom full-time. We are asking for community support to help her/us through this tough time. She requires 24/7 care and between working and raising kids it is extremely difficult for us to get all our bases covered so we are asking for donations. Any amount is greatly appreciated.
