Hey everyone! My name is Megan and I luckily was accepted to SASLI, a prestigious course held by UW Madison that teaches a year of language in two months but I need help with tuition
My name is Megan and I'm a humanities student at the University of Navarra in northern Spain where I concentrate in art and design history.
Being born and raised in Hawai'i, I've always been surrounded by a broad range of cultures, mostly from the Asia-Pacific region, and for as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by spoken and written language. I currently speak 3 besides my native language, having dedicated years to the study of Italian, Spanish, and colloquial Arabic.I also teach English here in northern Spain and am currently working on pursuing TESOL certification. Having worked at English language summer camps, I believe it's safe to say that this is more than a casual interest.
I am currently in the early stages of a project in which I will conduct research in the ways religion, traditional folklore, and post-colonial nationalism influence modern art and design in South and South East Asia, and how that ties to building national identity. Much of the material for this project would require me to learn the native languages of the region and for that, I applied to SASLI and SEASSI, an annual 8 week summer course that compresses a year's worth of study in 8 weeks, held at the University of Wisconsin.
I'm a student and entirely self funded, and while I did apply for scholarships and grants, it will take a few weeks to confirm whether or not I was approved for anything. I will use all of the proceeds from this fundraiser towards the summer course, and if I go above the limit, it will go towards my tuition at my regular university.
I really appreciate every cent that goes toward this campaign and will keep you all updated during and after the process!
